BWE visited Water Battery

Guided tour for representatives of the BWE – A group of the Upper Bavarian regional association visited the Water Battery in Gaildorf on 24th April, 2018. They were interested in the operating principle of the Water Battery and the actual pilot project in southern Germany.

The German Wind Energy Association (Bundesverband WindEnergie e.V. or BWE) is one of the world’s largest associations in the renewables sector. Since its founding in 1996, the BWE has continuously advocated for the development and expansion of wind power in Germany.

Due to this some members of the regional association visited the Water Battery of the Max Bögl Wind AG, which does not only produce “green” electricity but is also able to store it efficiently. As a result of the increasing production of energy with renewables, the implementation of future-looking storage technologies will become more and more important in the upcoming years. The pilot project in Gaildorf ties in exactly here and is able to store the volatile renewable energies like wind efficiently and flexible. With the combination of wind power and hydropower, a high performance short-term storage is created. The system can switch between producing and storing energy within 30 seconds and is able to react very fast to the demand of the energy market.

The participants of the guided tour, for example wind farm operators, project managers of the wind energy sector and lawyers specializing in energy law, were very interested in this worldwide unique solution. Experiencing the dimensions of the highest hybrid towers worldwide in reality and climbing the 40 metres high active reservoir were some of the highlights of the guided tour.
