90 Hybrid Towers erected in Thailand using Mobile Fabrication

Max Bögl builds some of Asia’s tallest wind turbines – Max Bögl Wind AG reaches milestone in the Thepharak wind farm in Thailand: The 90th Hybrid Tower of the project is now complete. The company thus proves that wind turbines can be built to German quality standards far from home using a Mobile Fabrication.

The last Hybrid Tower will leave the Mobile Fabrication in Huai Bong in the next few days. Max Bögl Wind AG has thus succeeded in producing 90 wind turbines with a hub height of 156.5 meters far from home yet with German production quality. “We are proud to have erected some of the highest wind turbines in Asia using our Mobile Fabrication for the very first time,” says Udo Hiller, Central Division Head of Wind Turbines at Max Bögl Wind AG. The turbines and rotary blades will be installed in the coming weeks so that the entire wind turbine assembly will be completed by early February. All turbines are scheduled to go online in March, thus ensuring that Thailand is one step closer to its goal of achieving 30 percent renewable energy by 2036.

Production shipped 17,000 kilometers

In August 2017 Max Bögl Wind AG began shipping 262 freight containers from Sengenthal in Bavaria to Haui Bong in Thailand, a journey of 17,000 kilometers. At the final destination, a good 260 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, the world’s first Mobile Fabrication for wind turbines was constructed in just a few months using 3.5 tons of advanced equipment. A short time later production began with local resources and around 200 mostly Thai workers. On-site production increased the local value added and significantly eased the infrastructure burden by eliminating the need for heavy transport.

Josef Knitl, CEO of Max Bögl Wind AG, is proud of the achievement made by everyone involved in the project: “Our goal was to make it possible to have a fully functional production plant at any location in the world. With bold ideas and dedicated employees, we were able to succeed in this innovative project.” Soon Hybrid Towers made in accordance with German engineering standards will leave the production plant at a new location.

Mobile Fabrication among top 10 nominees

Thanks to the high level of innovation necessary for the Mobile Fabrication, Max Bögl Wind AG has made a name for itself throughout the construction industry. The flexible production system is among the top 10 nominees for the 2019 bauma Innovation Award in the category “construction methods”.

The construction industry award is given every three years. This year’s winner will be announced in April.
